DIFFICULT WOMEN
DIFFICULT WOMEN
Currently, there are no bodies of elected officials at any level where women hold more than 30% of the seats, despite making up 50% of the population of the United States. So why aren’t more women in office? They are 15% less likely to consider running in the first place.
It might have to do with attitudes about where women belong. Women who step out of line or disturb the status quo are often labeled as “Difficult”, in a sexist term that is rarely, if ever, used to describe men.
This campaign reclaims that label and uses it to boost the image of women who have made a difference in politics. Emily’s List is an organization that supports female candidates for office, to help bridge that gap.
